Iconic Domain
Iconic Domain is the second part of the Complexio Oppositorum trilogy [2024–2027].
Through seven pieces of music, the album attempts to encompass seven emotional states. Our emotional life is our own domain and, as such, holds an iconic status within our being.
At the same time, this domain is increasingly shaped by internet culture. The internet has become a space capable of confirming and reinforcing almost any perception, emotional response or state of mind.
The titles of the seven pieces refer to emotional states and emotional processes. In this sense, the album title Iconic Domain seeks to represent the self: our inner emotional domain as something both deeply personal and increasingly influenced by the digital world surrounding us.
The title Iconic Domain also plays with the language of the internet, referring to the domain as a web address — a digital territory that can acquire an iconic status through recognition, repetition and cultural significance.
The seven tracks are recorded by Jakob Thorkild and Andrea Rebekka Alsted, who have worked together for many years, including on the album Devotional (2018).
The music is based on graphically notated composition and improvisation. Some of the pieces have been digitally post-produced.
Iconic Domain is released by Kontentum.
2nd part of trilogy Complexio Oppositorum
Complexio Oppositorum addresses the experience that the digital world simultaneously separates itself from lived life while becoming increasingly integrated into everyday existence and, in particular, into the ways in which we form our understanding of the world.
In this sense, Complexio Oppositorum seeks to interpret and materialise a feeling of standing at several technological, political and humanistic/spiritual crossroads.
The technological crossroads is represented by the internet and AI; the political crossroads by the profound geopolitical changes currently taking place; and the humanistic and spiritual crossroads by our psychological responses to these changes, as well as by the experience of being human at a point in history when many deeply rooted ideals are undergoing transformation.
Complexio Oppositorum will consist of three albums: Sacred Equation (2024), Iconic Domain (2026), and Rizz (2027).
Iconic Domain is partly based on compositions based on graphical notation
